Shows. Departure.

Thanks to everyone who attended the first Ladytron shows since 2020 in Glasgow, Liverpool and London. It has been a blast, and we are looking forward to the US dates in May, and more to be announced through the year, with a stunning new visual set by long time collaborator Sam Wiehl.

The new live shows have been the first without Reuben Wu, who has reluctantly concluded that he can not commit to a touring group whilst also pursuing a career in the visual arts on the other side of the world. We completely understand and respect his decision, especially after the past few years, which have put life and distance into new perspective for all of us. We have a quarter century’s worth of memories: of discovering, scheming, creating, travelling the world together, and we shall remain friends as ever was. The door is always open to work together again in the future.

Ladytron’s plans and schedule are not affected. Work has already begun on the follow up to Time’s Arrow. The show goes on.

Good luck Ru. XXX

FACES VIDEO

Ladytron reveal the music video for “Faces,” directed by band member Daniel Hunt. It is a photo roman-style clip inspired by Chris Marker’s short film La Jetée and the Italian Giallo genre. Helen Marnie plays the disincarnate protagonist, in an encounter with the inhabitants of an atemporal world.

City of Angels film

As the band have often said: “Where we are from it is always Halloween.”  The film to accompany new Ladytron single “City of Angels” Is a choreographed musical thriller inspired by cult favorites Roeg and Argento, shot in the brutalist mansion of architect Paulo Mendes da Rocha. The band haunts the set that surrounds lead actress Bianca Comparatothe star of the Netflix science fiction drama 3%, who brings her supernatural acting skills to the forefront as she plays a photographer entranced and drawn in by a mysterious force.

Bianca comments, “I’m such a fan of Ladytron – I was lucky enough to be in the music video…the whole experience was a dream come true.”

City of Angels” is the first single from Ladytron’s upcoming album, Time’s Arrow, which will be released on January 20 2023.

UK TOUR MARCH 2023

Electronic pop quartet Ladytron announce their highly anticipated seventh studio album Time’s Arrow, with the brand new single City Of Angels online today. The album, set for release via Cooking Vinyl on 20th January 2023, will be followed by UK tour dates in March.

City of Angels is their first new music released since 2019. Over Ladytron’s insistent analogue backing, the song inverts sensuous imagery into a vision of a near future with a collapse of cultural memory. “It’s about forgetting,” says Daniel Hunt “…how fragile it is,” “…not about one particular place or other, but a merging of them.”

Beauty, disposability and fragility of the culture that surrounds us, and the exhilaration of freeing yourself from those structures… these are themes Ladytron return to on Time’s Arrow. Crystalline melodies enveloped in icy textures and rippling arpeggios, shoegaze, disco, and industrial sounds that combine in their signature electro pop style.

The mood of Time’s Arrow is strangely optimistic, freeing – utopian, even. Have they left dystopia behind? “We’re already there,” Helen Marnie points out.
